Baby food founder in Gurnee:Square One Baby Foods founder Denise Henderson is slated to appear at Warren-Newport Public Library at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Henderson launched her company when her son was born with food allergies. Henderson is expected to tell her story and offer samples of her products. Registration is required for the free program. Call the library at (847) 244-5150.St. Mary rummage sale:The St. Mary of Vernon rummage sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Saturday at the church, 236 Route 45, Indian Creek. Items will be offered for half price from 2 to 3 p.m. Items include large rooms of furniture, household items to furnish a dorm or college apartment, toys, bikes, sporting goods, baby items, art, books and music. No clothing. No admission charge. For information or to drop off donations, call (847) 362-1005.Gurnee fishing derby:The Gurnee Park District will host its annual fishing derby from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at a pond behind the Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center. The complex is at 920 N. Hunt Club Road in Gurnee south of Grand Avenue. This free event is offered to children 5-11. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and prizes will be given for the most fish caught, biggest fish and smallest fish. Bait will be provided and a limited number of poles will be available. The derby will be canceled in the event of severe weather. The exhibit explores the roots of the Harry Potter series. Although J.K. Rowling's books are fantasy, much of the magic is based on Renaissance traditions in alchemy, astrology and natural philosophy.The library will also have a Magical Menagerie, Hogwarts Owlery and Professor Sprout's Herb Garden in the children's section on the first floor.
