RiverPark Summer Series continues
The RiverPark Summer Series continues on Sunday, July 11 with the 30-piece Prairie Brass Band out of Arlington Heights and Sunday, July 18 with The Space Collective Jazz Ensemble.
Brass bands provided most of the live music in small and medium sized towns in the late 19th century. On July 11, come and enjoy the music and the beautiful setting along the Fox River and imagine the young immigrants in the Swedish American Brass Band performing in Island Park or the Geneva Cornet Band's brassy sounds as they competed against the St. Charles Cornet Band at the old Kane County Fairgrounds. Consider picking up slices of pizza ($3) or soda ($1) from nearby Sanfratello's.
Three of the young men who are performing in The Space Collective Jazz Ensemble have played together since fifth grade at Western Avenue School: Jess Bielenberg on bass, Alec Watson on piano and Ethan Parcell on drums. Jess and Alec are currently on tour in Europe as Illinois Music Ambassadors; Ethan is traveling before attending the invitational Dave Brubeck Jazz Foundation this fall.
On July 18, soak up the sounds of classic American Jazz, the "story" behind these young performers, and some of their original compositions. Graham's Fine Chocolates will be adding to the pleasure of the evening with their ice cream cart.
The "Summer Series" is sponsored by Geneva Cultural Arts Commission and Sudden Values. All concerts are free of charge, begin at 7 p.m. and take place at the Amphitheater at the RiverPark of Geneva, Peyton Street and North River Lane. Bring folding chairs, pads or a picnic blanket for comfort.
In case of rain, the concert will be moved to the fellowship hall at the First Congregational Church of Geneva, 327 Hamilton St.
