From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the Lakes Management Unit samples Lake Michigan beaches and tests water for E. coli bacteria. If water samples come back high for E. coli, the management body for the bathing beach is notified and a sign is posted indicating the beach is closed. Beach advisory information is updated on the health department website daily by 10 a.m. Since rain tends to lead to elevated bacteria levels in the water column, beachgoers are advised to avoid swimming for 48 hours after a large storm. http://www.lakecountyil.gov/Health/want/BeachAdvisory.htm.Renowned pianist in GurneeInternationally renowned pianist Mark Damisch will give a benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity Lake County at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee.
