Careful who you put on your school boards
Regarding the article of paying former school district superintendents who have or were forced to resign considerable amounts of money because of mistakes by their respective school boards, the members on those school boards should not, I repeat, should not, be re-elected.
I have found that some school boards are fiscally irresponsible. In my present high school district of Warren Township, the school board granted the superintendent and the assistant 6 percent raises in 2009 annually through 2012, and this was during a time of recession in the country. Also, besides these two individuals, there are 35 others in the school district who made more than $100,000 in 2009. This is what happens when the majority of the members of the school board is former teachers, counselors, superintendents, etc.
When it is time to elect members to the school board, I will not vote for any candidate who is in that category. These candidates are only interested in protecting their colleagues, and care little about the residents of the district who are then forced to pay through their real estate taxes.
