Bring Titan-like focus to social issues

Lives lost on the Titan submersible are to be mourned not only by the families but by caring people around the world. However, I couldn't help wondering about the commitment of personnel, machinery and money that was dedicated to this recovery mission, as well as the world wide press coverage.

I wonder what might result if that same intensity of purpose and resources were directed at something like street violence or social injustice. If we were a nation focused on ongoing tragedies impacting the loss of so many more lives than the five aboard the Titan, people reminded on every news sound bite, pop up on every news site, updated coverage almost minute by minute. Don't you think that might get the attention of the public?

Even when it looked like "mission impossible" for the sub, people kept looking. We have hundreds of people on our own "submarine of social fabric" that are in danger. Shouldn't we magnify the resources to keep looking?
