WDSRA's 5K run a rockin' success

The day of the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association's Run, Rock, and Roll 5K was a very warm and sunny day with lots of activity at the Carol Stream Town Center.

We had over 130 runners that day and dozens of volunteers who were there to support the event. As an avid runner myself, it was great to see so much energy and excitement that early on a Sunday. The event had a wide variety of incentives for the runners including live music on the course, runner shirts and goody bags, runner raffle prizes and post race refreshments.

Held at the Ross Ferraro Town Center in Carol Stream, runners, walkers and even those whose mobility requires a wheelchair came out to support WDSRA. We would like to thank everyone who participated and the volunteers who made it a great experience. We would also like to acknowledge several community groups that played an integral part in the planning and execution of this event including the Village of Carol Stream, Mayor Frank Saverino, the Carol Stream Police Department, and the Carol Stream Fire Department.

Overall the event was a success and we could not have done it without our many wonderful sponsors: Culver's, Huskie Tools, Dick Ponds and Holiday Inn. Funds raised through events such as the 5K help WDSRA continue to offer athletic and fine arts programs, Special Olympics and adapted sports programs, day camps, social clubs and inclusion services. What a difference a community can make.
