Hoffman Estates cops seeking answers in rollover crash
Hoffman Estates police have many questions about an early morning rollover crash Friday that wasn't reported until nearly four hours later.
A woman told police she was a passenger in a 2002 silver Dodge Intrepid headed west on Shoe Factory Road, just east of Beverly Road, at 2:37 a.m. when it hit a guard rail.
The car swerved into a ditch on the other side of the road, went airborne and clipped the top of a retaining wall, landing upside down, Lt. Rich Russo said.
The car wasn't visible from the road.
The woman, whose identity isn't being released, said she blacked out from the crash and didn't wake up until 6:15 a.m., at which time she called police.
She told police she wasn't driving, but authorities said she was the only person at the scene and that the car belongs to her.
"We definitely have a lot of investigating to do because there are many unanswered questions," Russo said, declining to comment on whether alcohol played a role in the crash.
The woman was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates with nonlife threatening injuries.
Shoe Factory Road was closed for a short time while crews worked at the scene and removed the car, but has since reopened.
