Slaughter gets Green Bay in IFL playoffs Saturday
For the fourth time this season, the Chicago Slaughter and the Green Bay Blizzard will meet in a battle of Indoor Football League rivals.
This time, though, it will be in the playoffs as the Slaughter (6-8) hit the road Saturday night in the first round of the IFL postseason play against the Blizzard (10-4), a division-winning team they have beaten twice.
Last season, the Slaughter, led by head coach Steve "Mongo" McMichael, went an unprecedented 14-0 capturing the Continental Indoor Football League Championship trophy. This time, however, the Slaughter ended its regular season with a loss Saturday at Green Bay.
"We are excited to make the playoffs in our first season of competition in the IFL," said Alan Perkins, Slaughter GM. "We've got a good shot at making a strong run in the postseason. It's all about when you get hot."
McMichael believes his team will be ready for the challenge.
"Chicago facing Green Bay in the first round of the playoffs ... it doesn't get any better than this, folks," said McMichael. "We are a wildcard team right now in more ways than one. All but one of our losses this season came in the last minute of the game. We are a dangerous team - a team no one wants to face in the first round."
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at the Online Trading Academy Field in the Resch Center in Green Bay.
