Chicago-bound United flight diverted to Denver

A disruptive passenger forced a United Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Chicago to be diverted to Denver Tuesday night, airline officials said.

Flight 428 did not arrive at O'Hare International Airport until about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday after making the stop in Denver at 8:50 p.m. Denver time, said Mike Trevino, a spokesman for United Airlines.

He said the man became disruptive shortly after the plane left Las Vegas at 6:05 p.m., and the captain of the aircraft made the decision to reroute to Denver to meet with authorities.

"It's unclear what, exactly, the passenger was doing on the plane when the decision to divert was made," Trevino said. "But the captain made the decision to divert the aircraft and have law enforcement meet the passenger."

Denver police and FBI officials met the plane and took the passenger into custody, but the FBI later said it did not expect to file charges and declined to name the passenger.

Trevino said it was unclear if a sky marshal was on the plane during the commotion.
