Bad break at bad time for Teahen
Just when Mark Teahen was starting to heat up with the bat, he will have to chill out on the disabled list.
X-rays revealed the White Sox' third baseman has a fractured right middle finger, and Teahen is expected to be lost for a month. He was injured Sunday fielding a groundball at Tampa Bay.
"It's frustrating," Teahen said. "Things didn't start the way I wanted to and finally started on a roll the past couple weeks and I got it going to where I wanted to be. It's a setback, I guess, but hopefully it heals quickly."
Teahen is scheduled to have a pin surgically inserted in the finger Thursday. He is batting .255 for the season but was hitting .368 with 3 doubles, 1 home run and 7 RBI over his last 12 games.
"Never had a broken bone in my body," Teahen said. "Great time for the first one, I guess. I knew it hurt, but I was hoping it was just jammed. I guess the X-ray doesn't lie."
Backup plan: With Mark Teahen on the DL, manager Ozzie Guillen said he's going to platoon Omar Vizquel and Jayson Nix at third base.
Vizquel, a switch hitter, was in the lineup against Texas right-handed starter Rich Harden on Tuesday. Nix is a right-handed hitter.
"I am fully confident in what they can do," Guillen said. "It's not worth it to go out and bring in somebody to play for a month, then we don't know what we're going to do with them. I feel comfortable with them."
Lillibridge recalled: Brent Lillibridge was brought up from Class AAA Charlotte to take Mark Teahen's roster spot.
The utility infielder appeared in 46 games for the White Sox last season and batted .158. At Charlotte this year Lillibridge was batting .270 with 4 home runs, 16 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 48 games.
Lillibridge had some flight problems en route to Chicago, and he arrived at U.S. Cellular Field without his bags.
"I'm obviously excited," Lillibridge said. "I'm not so excited to see my buddy Teahen get hurt, but it's an opportunity. I obviously enjoyed having some success down there (Charlotte), but I want to be up here and I would expect to be some kind of spark plug for the team."
Guillen said he might play Lillibridge at second base and use him as a pinch runner.
