Elgin man charged with possession, intent to sell cannabis
Lucio Garnica, of the 600 block of Wing Street in Elgin, was charged Saturday with felony possession of cannabis and misdemeanor possession of cannabis. Garnica, 17, allegedly threw away a potato chip bag that contained a sock filled with nine plastic bags of cannabis.
An Elgin police officer stopped Garnica and retrieved the bag from the trash can. The officer did a field test on the contents, which tested positive for 3.4 grams of cannabis, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Bill Cotter.
Garnica allegedly waived his rights and admitted the sock was his and the cannabis was intended for sale, said Cotter.
Judge Samuel Betar set a $10,000 bond and a hearing is scheduled for July 2 at the courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
