Elk Grove manufacturer ordered to clean up spill
An Elk Grove Village business was ordered to hire a professional cleanup company after oil flowing into a Mount Prospect lake was tracked back to the business Tuesday night, Elk Grove Village Fire Department Acting Batallion Chief Lt. Scott M. Peterson said.
Mount Prospect fire officials were called to Lake Briarwood, just south of Algonquin Road and west of Busse Road, around 7:29 p.m. after a complaint of a white fluid in the water, Peterson said.
Fire officials tracked the fluid back to Saeilo Manufacturing, 1000 Pauly Drive, Elk Grove Village, Peterson said, and determined the fluid was flowing into a drainage ditch and traveled for about two blocks before flowing into the lake in Mount Prospect, officials said. Elk Grove Village officials were called to the scene around 8:33 p.m. after the source of the leak was determined.
Fire officials put booms across the water and in the storm sewer to help stop the flow and minimize the amount of oil in the waterway, officials said.
Fire officials, along with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, were on the scene late Tuesday awaiting the arrival of the private cleanup company.
Police are investigating the spill.
