Arlington farmer's market ready for new location

The big news at this year's Arlington Heights Farmer's Market isn't just what's for sale, but where.

The market opens Saturday, June 19, at its new location in the village parking lot on the northwest corner of Vail Avenue and Fremont Street, near the Historical Museum campus.

"We have outgrown the old site," market founder Claudia Starck said. "The parking lot is village property, and there is more room. There's room for vendors' vehicles and shoppers to park, and we're right across from the parking garage. We won't be blocking streets."

The market, in its 11th season, will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Saturday from June 19 through Oct. 23.

Vendors from Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan will sell produce and products like meats, cheese, pasta sauces and flowers. At the height of the season as many as 30 vendors will be in the market, Starck said.

Musical entertainment also will be on hand some Saturdays.

Vendors fees benefit local nonprofits like Journeys from PADS to Hope, Faith Community Homes, Arlington Heights Park District Foundation, Arlington Heights Youth Athletic Association and United Way, as well as Wheeling Township and Arlington Heights funds for emergencies. Last year more than $4,000 was donated.

"I just saw a community need and took off with it," Starck said.
