Benefit concert tonight:Elgin's Youth United Way is putting on a benefit concert tonight for the Community Crisis Center. It will be from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren, 783 Highland Ave., Elgin. It features two bands: The Reverends and the Paxton Brothers. A $5 cover goes to the crisis center.Water restrictions:Effective Wednesday, June 30, the village of Algonquin will be on "Yellow" water status, which restricts landscape watering to before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Even addresses may water on even calendar days and odd addresses may water on odd calendar days. All water classifications (green, yellow, orange, and red) prohibit watering the lawn or landscaping between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Violators will be ticketed. It runs from 5 to 10:30 p.m. in Cambridge Lakes by the baseball fields at Routes 72 and 47. There is a $5 or $6 fee to ride the slides all night; fireworks are free. No special education or knowledge of a second language is necessary. Attend an orientation for prospective tutors from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at the Bartlett Public Library, 800 S. Bartlett Road. Training workshops will follow at the same location from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, July 5-21. Volunteers can make up missed sessions during a later training series or online. Once the eighteen hours of training are complete, tutors are matched with an adult learner for tutoring one to two hours a week, at a time and location of their choice.
