Naperville Park District president re-elected
Mike Reilly is sticking around for round two.
The Naperville Park District president was re-elected to the helm of the park board Thursday.
"He did an excellent job the first year and we're moving forward," Commissioner Suzanne Hart said. "He's steering the ship in the right direction. Let's keep going."
Commissioners voted 6-0 to keep Reilly in the president's seat. Vice President Gerry Heide was absent.
Reilly said he appreciates the vote of confidence.
"I think it's indicative of the fact that we're working together as a team in a team environment and everybody plays a role," he said. "It's not a question of one person being dominant it's a question of everybody contributing and having an opportunity to contribute."
Earlier in the meeting he detailed the board's accomplishments during the past year - rewriting the board's policies, hiring a new law firm, developing a new strategic plan and expanding the number of park committees.
Reilly was elected to the board in April 2009 and fellow commissioners chose him as president just a month after he took his seat. The board votes on a president and vice president annually.
The vote for vice president didn't go as smoothly Thursday.
Hart nominated Heide to continue in the role and Commissioner Marie Todd nominated Kirsten Young. Upon voting, the board was split down the middle. There was also a technicality that kept the vote from being valid.
Instead of revoting, the board decided to table the choice of vice president until its next regular meeting.
