Kick off summer with outdoor concerts at Geneva Commons
Summer is kicking off a little early along Randall Road at Geneva Commons.
This weekend, the outdoor mall begins its eighth annual Summer Concert Series.
The series has become a tradition for many families up and down the Randall Road corridor over the past several years.
The concerts take place every Sunday in June, with a new musical act performing each week.
For regulars and newcomers, it offers a chance to wind down after busy weekend with some family fun.
The performances will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on the plaza next to Houlihan's.
The June 6 act will be Od Tapo Imi, which is billed as a tropical celebration with steel drums, pop music choreography and percussion.
On June 13, Red Woody will play. They'll sing some of your favorite songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today.
Hi-Infidelity brings classic hits from REO Speedwagon, Journey, Styx, Foreigner and more to life on June 20.
The Neverly Brothers will finish up the concert series on June 27. They'll play 50s rockabilly and early 60s British Invasion music.
To make your evenings even more enjoyable, the folks at Geneva Commons invite you to bring out your lawn chairs and blankets for the fun.
Those of you who get there early might get a little surprise, too. Each week, the first 125 concertgoers will get a free eco-friendly water bottle.
The concerts are free and open to the public.
Toy Story Celebration: The Borders book stores along Randall Road in both Geneva and Algonquin are holding a special celebration for the upcoming release of "Toy Story 3."
From 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 12, both stores will host a Toy Story 3 Movie Release Party, in anticipation of the movie's June 18 opening.
The stories will have stories, games, giveaways and more at the party, which is geared toward children age 4 to 9.
Going up: Yes, that is new construction, and a new business going up on Randall Road in Algonquin.
Work began late last month, and now is in full swing on the building at the southwest corner of Randall Road and Harnish Drive.
When it's all complete, the business - situated just in front of JC Penny, will be home to a new Chase Bank.
The closest Chase location to the new Algonquin spot is in Lake in the Hills, just to the north on Randall Road.
