Hornets go full Monty: New Orleans gave up its pursuit of Boston assistant Tom Thibodeau, according to multiple reports, and have honed in on Portland assistant Monty Williams for its coaching vacancy.

Since Thibodeau turned down the Hornets, he's obviously feeling good about receiving an offer from the Bulls. The 18-year NBA assistant met with Gar Forman and John Paxson in Los Angeles on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thibodeau in lead: The Bulls have been leaning toward Thibodeau for the past couple of weeks, especially since Boston upset Cleveland in the second round of the playoffs. Thibodeau is often credited for designing the team's defense strategies and joined the Celtics in 2007-08, the year they won the NBA title.

The Bulls might try to set up a meeting with chairman Jerry Reinsdorf before making a formal offer. They're weighing the merits of Thibodeau against their other leading candidates, which now includes ex-Cleveland coach Mike Brown.
