Arlington Heights announces nearly $5 million in road repairs

Work begins soon on nearly $5 million in reconstruction, resurfacing and repair projects on 35 Arlington Heights streets, village officials announced Wednesday.

The village last month awarded a contract to Mount Prospect-based Arrow Road Construction to complete the work, which includes $3.3 million in resurfacing and $1.6 million in road reconstruction.

Residents living on streets affected will receive notices before the start of the work.

Resurfacing means the top 2 or 3 inches of asphalt will be replaced, along with intermittent curb and sidewalk replacement.

Reconstruction is reserved for streets in worse condition. In those cases, full-depth asphalt is replaced, curbs and gutters are removed completely and replaced.

The work may require grade changes, meaning driveway approaches could be removed and replaced from the sidewalk to the curb. Intermittent sidewalk and drainage structure repair may also take place.
