Former Illini player enters NFL supplemental draft
CHAMPAIGN -- Former University of Illinois defensive lineman Josh Brent has entered next month's NFL supplemental draft rather than try to return to the school for his senior season.
Illinois spokesman Kent Brown said Tuesday that Brent has entered the July 15 draft.
Brent spent the spring semester at Parkland College in Champaign trying to improve his grades and restore his academic eligibility. Illini coach Ron Zook recently said he'd heard Brent didn't do well enough to return to Illinois.
Brent is from Bloomington. He'd been a regular player since his freshman season and started all 12 Illini games last year.
He spent almost a month in jail last summer after pleading guilty to drunk driving.
