Kagan embodies values we need now
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." These words were written by Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 16, 1963, from Birmingham Jail in the sweltering heat of segregation and racism.
For a time when civil disobedience was spat upon and when all hope for the sweet song of freedom had been subjected to the bitter shackles of social and economic slavery, these words were heard then as they are heard today.
However, it is times like these when King's words resonate in the fight for established and eternal justice in our land.
A woman like Elena Kagan embodies these values that sustain our spirit as a people. From her time at Harvard Law, in the Clinton White House, as a fierce advocate and private attorney, being Harvard dean and appointing conservative leaning viewpoints to serve alongside her, as solicitor general and voice of reason and representative of the American people in the Supreme Court, and simply as a woman with a sound soul and a robust heart, she is ready to serve as a Supreme Court Justice.
It is now when we face an unbelievable affront to our civil liberties and fundamental right to fair elections, and are being confronted by the ever growing threat of a gross conglomerate of governmental, legal, and corporate institutions that serve to divide our people and our very foundation of liberty in our land.
I support the nomination of Elena Kagan. She is the right person for the job at a time when our country seems to be undergoing the ultimate test of time and enduring the bending curve of a fast-paced society wrought with the multifaceted spirit of globalization.
