More liberal revisionist history
Thanks, Lanlan Hoo (Fence Post, Aug. 1), for the recent trip down liberal revisionist history memory lane. Starting with an infamous leftist battle cry, "They (Republicans) squandered President Clinton's budget surplus."
Surplus achieved by slashing and trashing the military and our intelligence capabilities by 25 to 30 percent? Rendered our intelligence capabilities impotent when Bin Laden was declaring war on us? 9/11, anyone? Also, billions were saved when the Republican-led Congress forced welfare reform on Clinton after he vetoed the bill three times. Does Lanlan know that the economic genius Clinton handed over a recession to George W.?
Another classic leftist delusion of grandeur covered by Lanlan, the acute business acumen of liberal icon President Roosevelt. He stated, "Roosevelt got this country out of the Great Depression and into three decades of economic growth/expansion." Really? FDR's own Secretary of Treasury, Henry Morgenthau begged to differ: "I say after eight years of this administration, we have just as much unemployment as when we started."
Sound familiar? Obama - spending $800 billion will prevent unemployment from climbing over 8 percent? Those three decades of economic growth glowingly referred to included the train wreck, Jimmy Carter. So pathetic under his economic reign of terror, the economy was measured by the "misery index." Don't look back, Jimmy, Barack is gaining on you. Does Lanlan realize that Democrats have held power in Congress since Jan., 2007, when unemployment was 4.7 percent?
Democrats' brilliant strategy for the November elections: Blame Bush and, of course, play the "race card." No wonder Obama's poll numbers are falling fast, and the Democratic-controlled Congress' approval rating is hovering near my shoe size. Can't wait to see how the Democrats attempt to revise the historical thumping they will endure in November.
