Dax, Buffalo Grove edge Rolling Meadows; Prospect wins

For the first time this spring, Buffalo Grove's softball team has won back-to-back Mid-Suburban League games.

Maria Dax moved into double-figure wins for the season by throwing a 3-hitter with 7 strikeouts as the Bison topped host Rolling Meadows 6-4.

"We needed this," said Dax, a junior right-hander who is 10-8. "Hopefully we can keep this going."

Meadows (13-12, 2-10) rallied with 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded when Dax ended the game with a strikeout.

"I got a little nervous at the end," Dax said. "It's always good to get a conference win."

Danielle Browne led the Bison (16-13, 4-8) by going 4-for-4 with 2 doubles while Emily Begnel was 2-for-3 and KC Dunne had a double.

"This is definitely a big win for us," said Dunne, who played shortstop." We needed a fresh start to the second half of the season. We need to keep this going by working hard every day."

Kelly Keyzer went 2-for-3 for Meadows (13-12, 2-10) while Maryclare Loughery had the other hit.

Prospect 3, Libertyville 1 (9): Freshman Michelle Molini belted a two-out, 2-run homer over the left-field fence in the top of the ninth to give visiting Prospect (10-12) and junior left-hander Sam Mangrum (7-5) the win.

Kaila Walter, who was on base when Molini homered, also scored the Knights' run in the fifth when she came home on Amanda Mlikan's RBI single with two outs.

Mangrum struck out 10 and walked two.

Cary-Grove 8, Hersey 0: Taylor Reeves had a double for the host Huskies (6-20) in the nonconference loss.

Highland Park 7, Maine West 6: Down 7-1 after five innings, visiting Maine West (11-14, 5-2) fell just short in the CSL North game. Junior Olivia Beers had a double for the Warriors.

Leyden 9, Willowbrook 8 (10): Morgan Maize (14-3) earned the win with 13 strikeouts and no walks in 10 innings. Christina Morgan (3-for-7, home run), Dana Thomas (home run), Amanda Moran (2-for-7, double), April Markowski (3-for-6, double), Maize (2-for-5) and Bri Michels (2-for-5) led the visiting Eagles (20-6, 6-1) in the West Suburban Gold.
