Dog rescued, no injuries in Round Lake Beach fire
Round Lake-area firefighters rescued a dog from a fire that started about 3:30 p.m. Friday in a home on the 1200 block of Idlewild Drive in Round Lake Beach.
Round Lake Fire Protection District Capt. Bill Rohrs said no people were home when the fire broke out in the kitchen, and no one - including the dog - was injured.
The fire began in the kitchen of the single-family home and was contained to a small area, Rohrs said. Firefighters extinguished the flames within 20 minutes, he added, but smoke damage is heavy throughout the house.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Officials estimate the damage at approximately $50,000.
The Round Lake Fire Protection District was assisted by the Fox Lake Fire Department at the scene.
