Cause unknown in death of Ind. deer hunter

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Authorities are working to determine how a 24-year-old man died while out deer hunting on his family's property in central Indiana.

State conservation Officer Angela Goldman says Joshua Eckelman's family began worrying about him when he didn't return after dark Saturday. Police officers and firefighters joined in a search beginning late Saturday of a rural area near Columbus, and Eckelman's body was found on the ground about 1 a.m. Sunday.

Goldman tells The Republic that Eckelman hadn't been shot and didn't fall from a tree.

Bartholomew County Coroner Allen Smith said foul play didn't appear to be involved, but that toxicology tests wouldn't be completed for two to three weeks.
