Butterfly bush remains bushier if it is pruned regularly
Garden tips
Buddleia, or butterfly bush, remains bushier and more floriferous if it is pruned regularly. The first spring flush of growth should be cut back now by half to promote branching. Prune just above a leaf. In a month, trim again. When flowers appear in midsummer, remove the fading blooms to encourage a new flush of blossoms in early fall.
Acclimating seedlings
Flower and vegetable seedlings must be acclimated to the outdoors before planting out. Keep transplants in a shaded and sheltered spot during the day, and bring them indoors at night or, ideally, onto a covered porch. Do this for a week before setting them in the garden. Planting on a cloudy or rainy day will minimize transplant shock.
