Kane County Literacy Connection is looking for volunteers
If you are older than 18 and can donate 1 to 2 hours a week to help an adult improve their English, The Literacy Connection needs you.
The Literacy Connection seeks volunteers to tutor adults in Basic Reading or English as a Second Language. Flexible training is provided, and no special education or knowledge of a second language is necessary.
Attend a free orientation for prospective tutors from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the Salvation Army Service Center, 150 S. Kennedy Drive, Suite 8B, in Carpentersville. Training workshops will follow at the same location from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 11-27. Volunteers can make up missed sessions during a later monthly training series or online.
Many of our learners struggle to read prescriptions, write checks or communicate with their children's teachers. You can help adults in your community to become more independent. For details, call the Literacy Connection at (847) 742-6565, e-mail info@elginliteracy.org, visit elginliteracy.org or attend the May 4 orientation.
The Literacy Connection, an affiliate of ProLiteracy, the world's largest organization of adult literacy programs, serves adults and young children in 16 Northwest suburban Chicago communities: Algonquin, Bartlett, Carpentersville, Cary, Elgin, South Elgin, East Dundee, West Dundee, Gilberts, Hanover Park, Hampshire, Hoffman Estates, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Streamwood, and Schaumburg.
