Bail denied Palatine man in probation violation charge
A 20-year-old Palatine man was denied bond Saturday after being accused of violating probation and violating an order of protection against seeing a 15-year-old girl.
Rogelio Valdez Jr., of the 1500 block of North Silver Lane in Palatine, appearing in Cook County Circuit Court in Rolling Meadows Saturday was denied bond on the probation violation charge related to a previous relationship with the teen, when she was 13, and given a $75,000 bond on the charge of violating an order of protection.
Valdez served 30 days in jail and was on probation until Dec. 3, 2010 after he pleaded guilty to criminal sexual abuse in November 2008, said Lesley Gool, assistant Cook County state's attorney.
He is accused of picking the teen up on May 19 and driving her around Elk Grove Village in his car.
His attorney, Karla Fiaoni of Chicago, said the relationship was consensual but illegal because of the participants' ages. She said Valdez had gone to see the girl last week at her request and voluntarily went to the Elk Grove Village police station after receiving a phone call from a detective.
His next court date is May 25.
