Slaughter winning streak ends in La Crosse

The Chicago Slaughter (3-4) fell to the La Crosse Spartans (1-7) with a final score of 29-35 on Friday night. The Spartans led 9-0 after the first quarter but the Slaughter fought back at the start of the second quarter with Jarrett Payton putting the first Slaughter points on the board with a 6-yard push into the end zone. Chris Nendick completed the extra point to make the score 7-9.

The Spartans responded on the other end with a rushing TD of their own, but failed to make the extra point. Fighting their way back, Slaughter QB Tavares Woodley rushed 7 yards for TD bringing the Slaughter within one point with a score of 14-15. But, the Spartans were able to put another score on the board and the Slaughter headed into half-time down by 8.

The Slaughter came out swinging to start the second half with Jarrett Payton scoring his second TD of the evening on a 7 yard run. QB Tavares Woodley ran the ball into the end zone for a 2-point conversion tying the game at 22. Unfortunately, the lead was short lived as the Spartans responded with Spartans QB Buddy Rivera connecting a 35-yard pass to Christopher Headd for a Spartan TD.

The extra point was good giving the Spartans a 27-22 lead. Despite Reggie Gray's 4th quarter TD, the Slaughter ultimately fell to the Spartans by one goal with a final score of 29-35.
