Former Huntley trustee dies in California
Funeral arrangements are pending for a former Huntley trustee who died Thursday in California.
Terrence Hoeft, 55, had a career on the board of trustees that spanned three decades. Appointed to the board in 1987, he was elected to several four-year terms, beginning in 1989.
He was re-elected in 2001 after an eight-year absence and left the board in 2005, said Village Manager Dave Johnson.
While on the Huntley board, Hoeft worked hard on transportation issues and on ensuring the village didn't get taken in by developers.
Johnson remembered him as a "gentleman that loved his community."
"He loved the village and was somebody that spoke his mind and had strong opinions as well," Johnson said. "He was always on top of issues and wasn't afraid to voice those issues."
Village officials are working with Hoeft's family to have visitation held this week at village hall.
Hoeft served on the board while the building was in the planning stages, Johnson said.
DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral Home in Huntley is handling Hoeft's arrangements.
Details about Hoeft's death weren't available.
The funeral home is expected to release his detailed obituary in the next few days.
