Holben named Naperville North head coach

Kristy Holben has been named head coach of the Naperville North girls swimming and diving program for the 2010 fall season.

Holben replaces Kate Toennis, who stepped down after coaching the Huskies for three years, which included back-to-back DuPage Valley Conference titles.

Holben, who teaches science at Naperville North, has been a volunteer assistant to Toennis for the past two years.

Assistant swimming coach Lew Kasten and diving coach Steve Mazzarella will return for the coming season.

"Kristy is familiar with our system and with the girls on the team," said Naperville North athletic director Doug Smith. "That familiarity along with her personality and her teaching and coaching skills, combine to make her appointment a good fit. She will give our program continuity by picking up where Kate left off and taking it to the next level."

Holben is a graduate of Eastern Illinois where she was a member of the swimming and diving team.

Prior to coming to Naperville North she taught and coached at Andrew.

"I'm excited and honored to be named to this position," Holben said. "We have a good staff and a lot of great swimmers returning from last year's team so we're looking forward to a fine season. One good thing about next season will be that the girls will be able to work in the new pool right from the beginning of the year."
