Fielders win 5-3 to split series at Fargo

FARGO, ND - The Lake County Fielders (3-5) split the series in Fargo, winning their second consecutive game 5-3 over the RedHawks (4-3). An early lead and good close by Fielders closer Jason Pearson were the highlights of tonight's game.

The Fielders (3-5) took an early lead, scoring five runs in their first at bat, the first time the Fielders have scored in the first inning this season. A two-out, two run RBI off the bat of Jeff Dunbar brought the score to 3-0. Anthony Esquer smacked a double to bring around Jeff Dunbar and John Delaney, who reached on Darren Byrd's second walk of the inning. The RedHawks answered with only run off an RBI single from Nick Jackson, leaving the score at 5-1 going into the second.

Alan Rick crushed a two run homer in the bottom of the second to close the gap by two, but the RedHawks were unable to score any other runs off of their seven total hits. Darren Byrd takes the loss for Fargo, giving up five hits, five runs and three walks.

Starting pitcher Corey Bass (1-1) got his first win of the season, throwing five and two thirds inning allowing three runs, six hits and striking out one batter. Relievers Jake Ruckle, Chris Homer and Jason Pearson closed out the game, giving up only one hit and striking out five in three and one third innings. Closer Jason Pearson gets his second save in a row for the Fielders, striking out two batters to leave the RedHawks scoreless in the bottom of the ninth.

The Fielders head to Joliet tomorrow night to face the JackHammers in their first meeting this season.
