Autopsy fails to pinpoint cause of Slipknot bassist's death
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Police say an autopsy failed to determine how Slipknot bassist Paul Gray died, and it will be weeks before toxicology results are available that could determine the cause of death.
The 38-year-old Gray, a Johnston resident and longtime part in the metal band, was found dead Monday in a suburban Des Moines hotel.
Urbandale police released a statement Tuesday saying the autopsy was completed but the death remained under investigation. Polk County Medical Examiner Gregory Schmunk says it could be four to six weeks before toxicology results are available, which could pinpoint why Gray died.
Police say the autopsy did confirm there was no evidence of foul play or trauma, and that Gray had been dead for several hours when his body was found by a hotel worker.
