Fremd students honored in Laws of Life essay contest
The Northwest Suburban Council Boy Scouts of America's Learning for Life program honored five William Fremd High School students on Thursday, May 13, for submitting winning essays in the Laws of Life Essay Contest. The Laws of Life awards banquet was held at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield Schaumburg, where the students were awarded with certificates and scholarship prizes.
Erin Graham took first place in this year's contest highlighting her Law of Life, "Being accountable for your life through your actions."
The Laws of Life Essay Contest sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation requires students to reflect and write about their laws of life. A law of life is described as a core value that makes up one's character and provides one with a moral compass that guides one through life. The Northwest Suburban Council (NWSC) Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life hosted this year's contest to increase character education awareness in the schools currently enrolled in the program. William Fremd High School has been chartered with the NWSC for the past several years and uses the Learning for Life program to enhance their career education center.
In addition to this year's first place winner, Erin Graham, the following Fremd High School students placed in this year's contest: Rosako Wagner, second place; Ryan Davie, third place; Marnie Clark, fourth place; and Emily Beeson was awarded an honorable mention for her essay submission.
The contest was open to all registered scouts with the Northwest Suburban Council, as well as all registered Learning for Life schools within the council.
Other scholarship winners include Brandon Kuo of Pleasant Hill Elementary School for his winning essay in the fifth grade category. Michael Maley of Buffalo Grove High School, received an honorable mention award for his essay entry.
