Relay for Life meeting
American Cancer Society Relay for Life Gurnee/Wadsworth will hold a team meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Sweet Tomatoes restaurant, 850 Waukegan Road in Waukegan's Fountain Square development. Anyone interested in forming a Relay for Life team or learning more about the event is encouraged to attend. Relay for Life is a fun, overnight community event to celebrate cancer survivors and caregivers, as well as remember those who have lost their battles to the disease. The goal also is to raise money for research, educational outreach and programs assisting area cancer patients and their families. Car Fun on 21
MainStreet Libertyville kicks off its summer schedule of events with Car Fun on 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 19. The event in downtown Libertyville features vintage cars 25 years or older in pristine condition displayed on Church Street between Brainerd and Milwaukee avenues and in the public lot behind St. Lawrence Episcopal Church. The monthly event features live music. Succeeding Car Fun shows are scheduled for Wednesdays, June 23, July 21, Aug. 18 and Sept. 15.
Prairie Pedal
The Liberty Prairie Conservancy's 14th annual Prairie Pedal will be held Sunday, May 16. Riders can choose from four routes, from 4 to 27 miles long, through natural areas in Grayslake and central Lake County. The event includes lunch, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, music by Sagebrush, massages and raffle prizes. Fun activities include bird-watching, viewing live reptiles and raptors, planting native grasses and wildflowers and meeting the Artifact Hunter. Register in advance online at libertyprairie.org or day of the event at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Grayslake campus on Route 120 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for kids age 6 to 17. Kids under 5 are free.
