WW South, Wheaton North split DH
Cross-town rivals WW South and Wheaton North split a baseball doubleheader Saturday in the DuPage Valley Conference.
The Tigers (11-12, 4-7) won the opener 12-7 behind Joey Tedeschi's 3-for-5 game with 2 RBI. Steve Lemm was the winning pitcher. Ben Murrow went 4-for-4 with 2 RBI in Game 1 for the Falcons (19-4, 9-2), who claimed the second game in five innings. Mike Coduto, who had 2 hits along with Mike Small and Nick Norder, improved to 5-0.
Wheaton North won Game 2 by a 12-0 score.
Neuqua Valley 3-4, Waubonsie Valley 2-5: The Warriors (14-8, 11-4) took two out of three in the Upstate Eight Conference series by taking the second game. Ryan Vega's single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in Sam Carius with the winning run. Sean Smith improved to 5-2. Joe Ippolito doubled and tripled for Neuqua Valley (12-9, 8-6) in the opener. Jake Gallucci was the winning pitcher.
St. Charles East 3-0, Lake Park 2-11: Trevor Koehn (4-2) fired a 4-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Lancers (14-7, 8-5) won Game 2 of the Upstate Eight Conference doubleheader. Jake McNamara went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Matt Kaiser had 2 hits and 3 RBI.
Glenbard East 7-2, Glenbard North 6-10: Pat Walsh's 2-run single in the bottom of the sixth provided the Rams (3-16, 2-9) with the winning run in the DuPage Valley Conference opener, a game won in relief by Mike Schlitter. Sean Little doubled and homered. Mark Ng went 5-for-5 for the Panthers (14-9, 6-5), who rolled to the Game 2 win. Ryan Broviak had 3 hits and 2 RBI. Dave Wolak also drove in 2 runs while Nick Pirok picked up the win on the mound.
Willowbrook 5-4, Leyden 1-3: Brian Monette (4-2) pitched a 4-hitter with 7 strikeouts and no walks in the opener of the West Suburban Gold sweep for the Warriors (17-7, 8-3), who notched their seventh straight win. Mike Elgeness went 3-for-3 in Game 1 while Bradley Collins drove in 3 runs. Brett Buchanan went 3-for-4 in Game 2.
Addison Trail 10-11, Proviso East 0-1: Anthony Milazzo pitched a 6-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts, and Tim O'Connor followed with a 5-inning 3-hitter as the Blazers (13-11, 7-4) swept in the West Suburban Gold. Jason Brzezinski, Tyler Ramir and Matt Haas all homered to help Addison Trail stretch its winning streak to five in a row.
Downers South 8-8, Morton 0-4: Nick Burdi (5-0) and Jake Rone (8-0) powered the Mustangs (20-5, 10-1) to the West Suburban Gold sweep. Burdi pitched a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts. Matt Wivinis went 5-for-7 with 4 triples and 5 RBI on the day.
West Aurora 6-3, West Chicago 2-2: Tommy Krone and Matt Ackerman had 2 hits apiece in the opener for the Wildcats (8-12, 2-9), who were swept in the DuPage Valley Conference.
Immaculate Conception 4, Stillman Valley 1: Matt McMahon (6-1) pitched a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts for the Knights (20-9) in the nonconference win. John Losurdo went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI.
St. Patrick 4-9, Benet 0-6: Mike Chiaro homered and drove in 2 runs in Game 2 for the Redwings (8-12, 3-5), who were swept in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.
Marmion 5, Wheaton Academy 4: Tate Fritz, who had 2 RBI, and Tyler Nelson each went 3-for-3 for the Warriors in their nonconference loss.
