Lincolnshire students rally to aid mom with Lymphoma
Ten Lincolnshire grade schoolchildren and a group of 30-plus moms from across the North Shore have rallied in support of a fellow mother battling Follicular non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma by creating the "Carnival of Caring" family fundraiser for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.
Their friend, Kate Arnold, mother of two young girls, was diagnosed in June 2008, and after six rounds of chemotherapy went into a three-month remission. In March 2009 the lymphoma returned and a second, alternate line of chemo began. Unfortunately, it was not effective. Now, Kate is preparing for a highly risky donor stem cell transplant at MD Anderson in Houston this spring.
Kate, her husband, Charlie, who is participating in LLS' Team-in-Training Triathlons, and their daughters, third-grader Elizabeth and first-grader Josie live in Lincolnshire. A group of Kate's friends and mothers across the North Shore initiated the "Carnival of Caring," while Kate's children's friends in School District 103 formed the Children's Committee.
The Carnival of Caring will happen rain or shine 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 8, (Mother's Day weekend) at the Libertyville Sports Complex, 1950 N. U.S. Highway 45, Libertyville. Find fun for tots to teens, including a 360-degree climbing wall, speed pitch, obstacle course, inflatable rides, wind tunnel, Tot Town, carnival games, arts and crafts, face painting, story reading, fun food, raffles and more. Children can even take part in a "Make-and-Take Gift for Mom" for Mother's Day.

Advance tickets are $30 for an entire family ($40 at the door), or $10 per person ($15 at the door). All proceeds from the Carnival will support Leukemia and Lymphoma Society research.
