Celebrate Mother's Day with bow to Mother Nature in Carpentersville
The 11th annual "Monitor with your Mother" event has become a tradition for many local families as a way to celebrate their mothers and Mother Earth at the same time.
Friends of the Fox River and Dundee Crown High School Environmental Science students invite families to attend their Monitor with your Mother celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at Fox River Shores Forest Preserve in Carpentersville.
The location is on the east bank of the Fox River, north of Lake Marian Road, and south of Route 62.
It began as an activity for students to teach their moms how to monitor water quality.
Now it's an event attended by hundreds. Visitors can enjoy free food, music, paddling opportunities, children's activities and presentations by local government representatives and a few surprise guests.
Students will offer the opportunity to learn about water quality and earn mom a special gift. Children will enjoy Sno-Cones and face painting.
This year's focus is the "Energy/Water connection."
