Elgin museum offers camp for kids
The Elgin Area Historical Society will offer "Mornings at the Museum: Summer Camp for Kids."
With the success of last summer's first "Mornings at the Museum" camp, they will offer two separate, three-day sessions.
It will give children the opportunity to become experts on Elgin's rich history. They will become very familiar with Old Main, explore the museum's treasures and participate in activities related to the exhibits: operating a model mill race, constructing a keystone arch, handling watch artifacts with white gloves, recreating the Road Race track, and constructing a diorama of Elgin landmarks.
This program will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings June 22-24 and July 13-15 at the Old Main museum, 360 Park St.
The sessions are hands-on and therefore must be kept small in number. To reserve a place, call Lucy at (847) 742-4248 or visit elginhistory.org.
The museum is housed in an 1856 landmark building known as Old Main that was once part of the Elgin Academy. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Through permanent and changing exhibits, the museum brings to life Elgin's heritage.
Permanent exhibits include Elgin National Watch Company, the E. Maude and Carl Parlasca Native American Collection and Elgin Road Race memorabilia.
