There's plenty of poverty in U.S.
Recently the Daily Herald ran a letter to the editor where the writer stated how there was no poverty in this country. How the poor were living in the lap of luxury.
No matter how upset I might get about the letter, I am appalled and disgusted that the Daily Herald would sink so low as to even print this letter.
Talk to any religious, or nonreligious, person who works for a group that works with the poor. Visit some of the slums in Chicago. Visit some of the mining communities in Appalachia. Visit some of the horribly poor rural areas throughout this country. Visit some of the poor Indian reservations throughout this country. And that is only the beginning of the list.
Typically the people who feel this way also minimize what it takes to get out of these situations because they have no idea of the magnitude of effort that it takes to get out of this. Just get three jobs, your college degree, etc. You can do it if you only wanted to. Again. No idea.
I truly feel saddened that anyone in this country would be so callous as to even write this type of letter and not be embarrassed.
For the letter writer. You need to pray every day of the rest of your life that something never happens so that you end up in a similar situation. I'm certain that you wouldn't be able to handle it.
