Major announcement about O'Hare expected today

Top city, state and federal government officials will jointly announce today the release of major federal funding for O'Hare International Airport, according to Sen. Dick Durbin's office.

Official sources declined to give details, but Crain's Chicago Business reports that O'Hare will get $400 million in federal monies to modernize and expand the airport.

Durbin will be joined by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Gov. Pat Quinn and Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.

Last month, city aviation officials said the O'Hare Modernization Project may be complete by 2014, despite the ongoing refusal of major airlines to provide financial support.
