Cabbie indicted on terror charges
A Chicago cab driver has been indicted on charges of attempting to aid al Qaida.
The charges against Raja Lahrasib Khan on Thursday are identical to those in a complaint the FBI filed Friday. But now that an indictment has been returned, there will not be a preliminary hearing at which Khan would have been able to challenge the government's evidence.
The 56-year-old Khan, an American of Pakistani origin, is accused of attempting to send money to Pakistan-based terrorist leader Ilyas Kashmiri, believing that he had al Qaida ties.
Defense attorney Thomas Anthony Durkin said he was very disappointed that the government made a strategic decision to head off a preliminary hearing that was set for next Wednesday.
