Aurora police chaplain remains in hospital

The Rev. Jerome “Father Jerry” Leake remained in serious condition Tuesday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with injuries he received Sunday when an Aurora squad car he was riding in slid off the road.

Leake is senior chaplain for the Aurora Police Department and pastor at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Aurora's near east side. He was on his weekly ride-along Sunday when the squad car driven by an Aurora officer hit a patch of ice. The car left the road and struck a tree on Fifth Avenue, authorities said.

Officials have said Leake's injuries are not life-threatening.

Marianne Reier, business manager at St. Joseph's, said Leake will not require surgery, but she does not know how long the healing process will take or how long he will remain in the hospital.
