No injuries reported in early-morning Huntley fire
No one was injured in an early morning fire in Huntley Friday that took about 3 hours to extinguish, fire officials said.
Huntley Deputy Fire Chief Keith Mallegni said firefighters were called to the 12000 block of Muir Drive at about 12:30 a.m. with reports there was a fire on the outside of the house.
Mallegni said the fire started near a gas meter and melted a gas line, sending fire out of the ground outside the home.
"The pipe melted through the ground and Nicor had to dig the pipe up," he said. "So, they couldn't shut the gas off until 3:19 a.m."
The fire outside ignited the home ablaze, Mallegni said, causing about $300,000 and leaving the home uninhabitable.
Two people in the home were able to escape without injuries, Mallegni said.
He said the fire remains under investigation.
Mallegni said two neighboring houses also sustained some damage because of the heat.
