Prospect Heights City Council to honor Girl Scouts for tree project
The Prospect Heights City Council will honor Girl Scout Troop 43062 at its Nov. 25 meeting for its work planting oak trees in Prospect Heights during this summer and fall.
The troop completed the "Oak Ecosystem Recovery" project by planting 25 oaks at the Prospect Heights Gary Morava Nature Walk and The Slough. The Girl Scouts also made a presentation about the project at the 47th annual River Trails Nature Center Fall Festival, where they gave away 200 potted oak seedlings to the visitors.
The troop collaborated with the Prospect Heights Natural Resources Commission for guidance on how to correctly prepare the oaks for planting, plant them and care for them.
