Palatine Police Chief John Koziol to be honored
Palatine Police Chief John Koziol will be honored tonight during a ceremony in honor of National Crime Victims Rights Week, Cook County State's Attorney officials said.
Each year, Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez recognizes the efforts of those who work tirelessly on behalf of crime victims, a news release said. In additon to Koziol, Alvarez will present the office's Victim Service Awards to three other Cook County residents.
Koziol and his department is recognized for their "tireless efforts in the investigation involving the Brown's Chicken murders in 1993." The release adds "In 2002, two offenders were charged and the case was solved, but officers and investigators did not let their commitment to the families of the seven victims end. They continued to play an instrumental role in the prosecution, providing support for the families of the victims in and out of the courtroom."
In addition, also winning the award will be 9-year-old Jeremy Jordan, who testified at a murder trial after seeing his cousin gunned down near Altgeld Gardens in 2007. He will be joined by Ursula Villatoro, a crime victim advocate for Mount Sinai Hospital, and Karli Butler, a battery victim in 2006 who has helped others as a mentor and volunteer for young women in Chicago.
The ceremony will be held at the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge No.7, 1412 West Washington at 5:30 p.m.
