Algonquin man recaptured after running from police
An Algonquin man who police say crashed his car into a Carpentersville building Saturday, then escaped from a Kane County sheriff's squad car Wednesday has been recaptured.
Kane County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Pat Gengler said Ross McDonell, 19, of the 900 block of Prairie Drive, ran from the squad car about 4 p.m. at Pete's A Towing on Route 25 in unincorporated Dundee Township.
Gengler said McDonell was arrested on charges of criminal trespass Wednesday after he jumped the fence at the tow lot and tried to take something from his vehicle. Police said McDonell was likely trying to take a skateboard.
While the arresting officer was investigating, McDonell, who was still handcuffed, ran from the vehicle, Gengler said.
Algonquin police found McDonell at his home about 7 p.m. Wednesday. He was in the backyard and was still handcuffed, though he had maneuvered his hands to the front of his body, according to Sgt. Brett Wisnauski. McDonell was charged with misdemeanor escape and was taken to the Kane County Adult Justice Center.
McDonell was charged Saturday with driving under the influence after he drove his Dodge Avenger from the parking lot of 91 S. Kennedy Drive and over a curb, through a fence and into the side of the Masonic Lodge at 89 S. Kennedy Drive, in Carpentersville, police said.
He had been released from Carpentersville custody Wednesday before the second incident.
