Hoffman Estates hotel robbed

Hoffman Estates police are asking for help in capturing a person who robbed a hotel early Tuesday morning, officials said.

Authorities said a black male in his late 20s entered the Comfort Inn Suites on the 2000 block of North Barrington Road about 12:10 Tuesday morning, displayed a small, semiautomatic handgun to the front desk clerk, and demanded money.

After receiving the money, authorities said the robber -- who stood 5-feet, 5-inches tall and about 145 pounds -- fled on foot in an unknown direction.

He said the male had a mustache, a few days' growth of facial hair, and was wearing a brown polo shirt with horizontal stripes, blue jeans, and black shoes. He also had a diamond earring, authorities said.

Authorities said no one was injured during the robbery, and no shots were fired.
