Ex-Sox slugger Ron Kittle to try hand at standup
Former White Sox slugger Ron Kittle a standup comedian? Sure, he always had a way with a locker-room quip, but will that translate onstage? That's the whole idea behind WTTW Channel 11's new series "The Chicago Standup Project," which will take local celebrities and see if they can kill in a club with comedy. The first episode tapes at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Zanies Comedy Club, 1548 N. Wells St., Chicago, with Kittle joined by Susanna Negovan, editor-in-chief of Michigan Avenue Magazine. Tickets are $22, available by calling (312) 337-4027 or visiting zanies.com.
Last helping?"Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution" is slated for its season finale at 8 p.m. Friday on WLS Channel 7, but anyone who's seen this delightfully contrived foodie reality series knows they always seem to come up with something to extend the run. Anyway, it should as ever be a hoot to see the British chef ram healthy food down the throats of the hefty West Virginians he's placed himself among. Now this show killsSo-called suicide doctor Jack Kevorkian would seem an unlikely subject for a feature film, which is why he's turning up instead as the central character of a boutique made-for-TV movie played by Al Pacino and produced by Barry Levinson for HBO. The supporting cast ain't too shabby either, starring Susan Sarandon and John Goodman. It debuts at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 24, on the premium-cable channel.Blowed up real goodSure, Sandra Bullock is a refined Oscar-winning actress and America's sweetheart, but Waste Watchers remembers her best as the futuristic cop trying to learn to swear and kick butt from Sylvester Stallone in "Demolition Man." Wesley Snipes glories in the role of the bad guy loosed upon a future society that knows no evil, and the movie as a whole loves blowing things up as well. It's at 5:30 p.m. Friday on Ion.
