Plan affordable housing in C'Ville area

Members of the Northeast Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects will work with Carpentersville officials and residents, plus members of Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley to design a master plan for affordable single-family housing.

The parcel of nearly 9 acres is just off the northwest corner of Randall and Binnie roads, near the Carpentersville municipal limits.

NEI members are seeking volunteers to participate in a design charrette, set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at the Habitat offices, 20 S. Grove St., Suite 201, Carpentersville.

Also participating will be representatives from Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley.

Participants will brainstorm ways to develop an affordable, sustainable single-family housing community, plus possibly develop a new housing prototype that could be used to increase the project's density.
