Wind hearing continued:A public hearing regarding proposed regulations of wind energy facilities has been continued to May 17 and May 24. The Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals on Monday made the decision after hearing three hours of information and comment on the topic. The zoning board is considering 14 pages of regulations for various aspects of wind energy, including allowed heights and setbacks, noise, shadow flicker and other details for both residential and commercial uses. ZBA review is one of several layers before the county board ultimately decides what the regulations should be. County planners for the past year have been working with dozens of municipalities to develop a standard ordinance. On both days, the hearings will take place at 1 p.m. at the county's permitting building, 500 W. Winchester Road in Libertyville.Cinco de Mayo festival:The Lake County Forest Preserve District's 9th annual Cinco de Mayo festival will be 1 to 6 p.m., Sunday, May 2, at the Greenbelt Cultural Center, 1215 Green Bay Road, North Chicago. Entertainment highlights include live music, traditional dances, salsa dance lessons and a native drumming performance. Children's activities include face painting, wagon rides, and arts and crafts. Youth soccer games with trophies will be presented by Lake County Soccer featuring Pachuca. Children and their parents can also sample nature activities offered at Lake County Forest Preserve camps. Call (847) 968-3477.Kitten shower:The Grayslake-based Save-A-Pet Adoption Center is having its annual Kitten Shower on Saturday, May 1, from noon to 2 p.m. at the center, 31664 N. Fairfield Road. Participants are encouraged to bring a kitten-friendly shower gift. Typical gifts include small animal digital scales, kitten nursing bottles and rubber tipped thermometers.
